Portiere (heavy curtains). Portiere is a window or door covering usually consisting of one or two vertical panels of fabric. Portieres can be made of different materials – dense (velvet, tapestry, gobelin, jacquard) or light (cotton, viscose, natural silk).
Light curtains are a window covering made of light, seen-through material (tulle). Light curtains usually in width exceed the length of the curtain track at least twice; that gives it additional refinement.
Swags are a narrow (usually not more than 1/5th of the total length of the portieres), draped, horizontal strip of fabric, which initial task was to conceal the humble looking curtain tracks.
Trimmings. There is a great number of additional accessories for curtains: cords, traces, tie-backs, decoration boarders, ruffles. They give the curtains refinement and allow controlling the amount of light flooding into the room.
